"The Black Baron"- Nîmes - 1993
(varoious plastic materials on wood)
I painted all my crocodiles in Nimes where I lived for 8 years. The symbol of Nimes is a chained up crocodile. In fact, the emperor Augustus would have entrusted Egypt the town as a colony to country veterans. Hence the representation of the Egyptian crocodile (possibly the god Sobek) chained to the palm tree. This liberated crocodile is matador of bulls: what could be more natural in the city of the Antonins?
