Crocodile - Nîmes - 1991 (acrylic on canvas, 80 x 80)
In 1989, I lived in Cairo for 9 months and I discovered Ancient Egypt, its statuary and its painting. Haunted by Sobek, the god with a crocodile head, I drew in an obsessed way his face several hundred times with ink. Sobek is, amongst others, the God of water. The paintings blend Siouxie & the Banshees gothic style with the profile representation of the Egyptians. The backgrounds are painted based on the jungle in "Dream" by Henri Rousseau: never the same nuance twice.
